- There are two papers for each stream, and different marks will be allocated to objective type questions.
- SA Stream: There are 80 questions out of which 60 questions for Part 1 and 20 Questions for Part 2. Each Part 1 question carries one marks and each part 2 question carries two marks.
- In SA Stream: There is negative marking for each wrong response, 0.25 marks will be deducted for questions from Part 1 and 0.5 marks will be deducted for questions from Part 2.
- SB/SX Stream: There are 120 Questions out of which 80 questions from part 1 carry one mark for each MCQ and 40 questions from Part 2 carries two marks for each MCQ.

About Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)
KVPY is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and technology of Govt of India. The KVPY Exam aims to encourage candidates to take up the research careers in the areas of basic sciences. KVPY Exam also offers scholarship and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D level to the selected students. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana started in 1999 and administered by IISC Bangalore.
The KVPY is ongoing National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences to attract exceptionally talented and motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. The primary objective of the KVPY Scholarship program is to identify the candidates with skill and aptitude for research. It helps the individuals to realize their potential in their studies. KVPY Exam also ensures the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
The candidates who study XI Standard to 1st Year in any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./M.S./Int M.Sc. in Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology having the aptitude for scientific research are eligible to write the KVPY Scholarship/Research Fellowship Exam.
Special committee/Groups set up at Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore, to Screen the applications and conduct an aptitude test at various centers in India. Based on the performance shown in the Aptitude test, Students shortlisted for the Interview. Both Aptitude test and Interview marks considered for receiving the fellowship.
For calculating Merit list, 75% weightage given for Aptitude test marks, and 25% weightage given for Interview marks in the streams SA, SB, and SX.
