GATE Exam Pattern 2020 | GATE Marking Scheme 2020
The GATE Paper Pattern 2020 reveals the structure of GATE 2020 Exam question paper. The candidates can prepare a study timetable by referring GATE 2020 Exam Pattern.
With the help of GATE Pattern 2020, the candidates can know a number of marks assigned to each subject/ paper. Through GATE 2020 Pattern, the student knows which topics to study first in order to secure high marks. The GATE 2020 Paper Pattern is decided by the conducting board. Mostly, the Exam Pattern of GATE 2020 is same every year. The GATE Test Pattern 2020 is as follows:
- No. of Papers: The GATE 2020 Exam is conducted with 23 paper. The papers differ as per the course. And, the candidate can attempt only one paper for one session.
- Questions: Each paper consists of 65 questions with total 100 marks.
- Exam Duration: The exam is conducted for 3 hours.
- Question Paper Type: The question paper consists of both objective type multiple choice questions and numerical type questions.
- Marking Scheme: For each correct, 1 or 2 marks are credited for both MCQ and numerical type questions.
- Negative Marking: For 1 mark questions, 1/3rd of the mark is deducted, and for 2 marks questions, 2/3rd of the mark is subtracted. Also, there is no negative marking assigned for wrong answers for numerical type questions.

- In AE, BT, AG, CH, CE, EC, CS, IN, EE, MN, ME, PI, MT, TF and XE papers, the Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude sections, each carry 15% of total marks, and the concerned subject paper gets remaining 70% of total marks.
- In AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL papers, General Aptitude section gets 15% of total marks, and associated subject paper carries remaining 85% of total marks.
